Here are some things, that aren't long-time favorites, that I am currently super into.

_Seek Shelter by Iceage

This appeals to me in a way similar to how a lot of Nick Cave records appeal to me, but it's more compositionally active than a lot of that stuff, which makes it easier for me to throw on. I have more I'd like to say about it, but I want to sit with it a little more first. I do think, though, after only a couple listens, it's probably my favorite Iceage album.

_Quiz by Dylee Dee

I've been working on my first album for the past year or so, and I'm pretty excited about putting it out. I'm also extremely anxious about how it's gonna be perceived. Despite my best efforts to avoid this, a lot of my art, especially really personal stuff--like this album--tends to come off as very moody and, um, I dunno, like, overly self-serious. Which is odd, because I generally think of myself as being kind of stupid and goofy, and a lot of my friends seem to think of me that way too (not stupid in an insulting way, if that makes sense to you). A lot of the writing for this album, at the time, felt like I was staying in touch with that part of myself, being silly and all, but when I listen to these drafts of songs and read the lyrics I wrote, it's like... I think a lot of the humor got lost in my emotions--and at my core, I am a pretty dramatic, self-serious person, even though I think it's super lame for me to be that way.

Ultimately, what I would like to accomplish with this record is to release an album that people can have fun with. Before I became an adult, legally anyway, I assigned a lot of value to experiences wherein I would come home from school and find a piece of art I could invest a lot of myself in. Sometimes, that piece of art was an album, and a big example of this is Before These Mighty Skies by Le Soldat Pony. The storytelling on that album, lyrically and sonically, was one of the most powerful instances of me getting immersed in a world. So far in the short time I've spent in my adult life, the closest I've gotten to a similar experience was listening to the Mirror to Mirror version of Car Seat Headrest's Twin Fantasy, which is why my brain always crosses my emotional response to that album to Before These Mighty Skies. The storytelling on my own album is a lot more self-centered and less detailed than it is those records, so I obviously hold those in much higher regard than Quiz. Even though I spend a couple songs on the album playing the role of some cartoonishly over the top characters, I don't think I do a very good job describing scenes and context and all that good stuff--even these songs are very much about me choosing a topic, and then building detail to make some kind of point about whatever topic I decided I had enough to say about to turn it into a song. Which I guess describes most art, but I don't know, I guess I just think I'm not as good at doing this stuff as a lot of my favorite artists are. But anyway, if whatever I made is good enough to provide some kid the kind of experiences I really valued during childhood, then I would have accomplished some of the best I could hope to do.

(On the off chance someone looks at this page before I publicly reveal the cover art for this album, I've opted to put the back cover on here for now.)

Here's an archive of things that were in the "current fixations" tab at some point.

_ION by PORTAL

I've been fascinated by this album ever since it came out, but I never found myself throwing it on to enjoy, until very recently (May, 2021 (for reference, this album came out in 2018)). It's got a very cool, retrofuturistic take on horror and dystopia, that I always admired, but the sound of it was too dry and raw for me to get lost in at the time of its release. I'm very glad that I'm now able to enjoy it musically. It's hazy and swirling and twisted and manic, and it's been making me happy.

_LUCKYBOY, Directed by Domenic Romano

I am the 2D animation director on a film called LUCKYBOY. This film is taking over my brain, and most of what I do with my time is affected by it in some way or another. Frankly, I have very little idea as to what this thing is gonna even be like, despite spending so much time with it--kind of like how a lot of people think about gardening--but that's kind of exciting in its own way. Also, Dom (LUCKYBOY's director) is my boyfriend, and it's been very nice being in the same town as him.

_Dying

I am very upset and sad and wow. School is definitely a big part of it--I hate school--but I think I might typically put so much emphasis on school when discussing my bad feelings because I don't feel as comfortable explicitly naming other things hurting me. There are definitely things that I'd like to do, and the lack of completion of these fairly feasible things are a big part of why I'm still around. That said, I don't really foresee any fulfilling longterm future for myself.
